The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine and the Danish Energy Agency have agreed to jointly draw up a program for the modernization of heating supply systems, the ministry's press service has reported.
According to the report, representatives of the two countries' institutions discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of energy efficiency, the implementation of joint projects on modernizing heating supply systems, Denmark's experience in implementing mechanisms for such modernization and the use of this experience in Ukraine.
As a result, the Ukrainian and Danish sides agreed to jointly prepare a program for the modernization of heating supply systems in Ukraine, ways to implement it, priority projects and the development of further cooperation in this area.
"The modernization of heating supply systems is a major component of energy efficiency reform that helps reduce energy consumption and save energy. Today, Ukraine lacks budget funds to perform the necessary work to ensure the upgrade of systems. Therefore, it is important to attract foreign investment to fulfil these tasks," Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Natalia Khotsianivska said.
According to Deputy Minister for European Integration Igor Korkhovyi, it is important to use successful foreign practices and attract foreign investment to modernize district heating supply systems, which will help renew and reconstruct these systems in Ukraine.
The Danish Energy Agency was established in 1976 and is the agency responsible for issues related to energy production, supply and consumption, as well as measures to reduce carbon emissions.
On December 22, 2014, the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry signed an agreement on cooperation and development of the Ukraine-Denmark Energy Center(UDEC). The Ukraine-Denmark Energy Center acts as a working platform for the operational establishment, management and maintenance of inter-institutional cooperation and obtaining expertise from the Danish Energy Agency on the implementation of joint projects.
