Tensions High In Kazakh Village After Alleged Rape Of Teenage Girl.
Tensions are running high in Kazakhstan’s southern town of Zaghambar after authorities deployed special forces there following the sexual assault of a teenage girl. Some 4,000 of the 5,400 residents of Zaghambar are ethnic Uzbeks. Residents told RFE/RL that unknown assailants set three private cars on fire and threw Molotov cocktails inside several houses after a teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assault. Sixteen suspected arson attackers have also been detained. The town has been cordoned by law enforcement officers, while telephone communication and the Internet remain blocked in Zaghambar.
