Trafficked Turtles Released Back into Nature in Colombia.
A conservation park released 50 turtles into their natural habitat in Colombia, Wednesday, October 20, after they were rescued from trafficking.
This was the final step in the turtle’s rehabilitation process developed at the Conservation Park of the Medellin Public Improvement Society.
According to biologist, Diana Sanchez, it is common for these rescued turtles to have missing limbs or holes drilled through them.
Freshwater turtles are among the most trafficked animals in Colombia.
The turtles in this illegal trade are often either voluntarily surrendered by their keepers or seized by environmental authorities. (AFP)
