The Confederation of British Industry’s three-day annual conference is taking place in eight locations across the UK as the business group latches onto the government’s “levelling-up” agenda. Both Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Keir Starmer will be speaking.

Boris Johnson's speech is expected to be focused on green growth containing policy announcements.

The prime minister will commit to laying new legislation that will require new homes and buildings such as supermarkets and workplaces to install electric vehicle charge points from next year.

No. 10 say this will lead to “up to” 145,000 extra charge points installed each year. Johnson will tell the CBI: “This is a pivotal moment — we cannot go on as we are. We have to adapt our economy to the green industrial revolution. We have to use our massive investment in science and technology and we have to raise our productivity and then we have to get out your way."
