Close-Up Video Shows Lava Flowing Rapidly in La Palma.
The Canary Islands Volcanological Institute released video on Monday of red-hot lava and molten rock from Cumbre Vieja volcano flowing rapidly at one meter per second.
The volcano on the island of La Palma first erupted on September 19 and has been active ever since, showing no sign of abating, experts say.
La Palma local authorities said the lava stream has engulfed 1,115 hectares of land so far and the eruption damaged or destroyed nearly 2,700 buildings, forcing the evacuation of thousands from their homes on the island.
