Police Storm Ecuador Prison After Riot Kills 116

Ecuador's national police sent in 400 officers to restore order at one of the country's largest prisons, Thursday, September 30, after a riot this week in which at least 116 inmates died and 80 were injured.

Soldiers searched prison cells for weapons in the aftermath of the country's deadliest outbreak of prison violence.

Police commander Tannya Varela told reporters they were searching for the culprits who started the riot.

"They are inside, we know they are armed, we have to keep looking for the weapons they have,'' Varela said.
