What is the maximum age people can live to: scientists have named a limit.

Humans have been trying to figure out a way to fight aging and death for centuries. That's why, throughout history, the maximum life expectancy has been steadily increasing due to improved living conditions, medicine, and hygiene.

However, the scientific community is still studying the question of the maximum age a person can live to. IFLscience reported on a study that identified the generally accepted life expectancy limit.

Today, people live longer than ever before. Life expectancy in developed countries has doubled over the past 150 years. Therefore, it is likely that the number of people who will reach their 100th birthday in 2100 will be 25 million. For comparison, in 1990, there were approximately 95,000 centenarians.

Aging

Some may think that it is worth fighting the signs of aging, such as back pain, foggy memory, etc. But in fact, bodily deficiencies are not the result, but rather what is called aging.

"Age and aging are not the same thing," explains the Max Planck Institute for the Biology of Aging. "Age is just a number, which is often subjective. Aging, on the other hand, is an observable process that can be described and defined scientifically. In research, aging is defined as a progressive loss of physiological integrity that leads to functional impairment and an increased likelihood of death."

The question then logically arises, what exactly causes the degeneration of the human body? However, despite the simplicity of the wording, there is still no clear answer.

How to extend life?

Some people might think that medical advances, access to food, and the absence of stress will help you live much longer. But reality shows that logic does not always provide the right answers.

A lecturer in cellular aging at the University of Essex has reported that calorie-restricted diets can improve health and extend life expectancy.

Given enough food and low stress levels, human cells create new proteins, divide, multiply, and eventually "get tired" and age. And in difficult conditions, the body, on the contrary, tries to protect and preserve every cell.

Therefore, the only thing a person can do to stay alive as long as possible is to watch their weight, give up bad habits, and consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. It may sound trite, but this approach can increase life expectancy by up to 14 years.

How many maximum years can a person live?

In 1921, it was believed that a person could never live longer than 105 years. However, today the age of the oldest person, Jeanne Kalman, is 122 years and 164 days.

Scientists say that this figure is very close to the generally accepted limit of human life expectancy. Most studies and calculations show that the organs will function only until the average person is about 120 years old.

However, not all scientists are so pessimistic. Some hypothesize that people reach their maximum at the age of 120-150 years.
