A rare coin collection of famous Danish tycoon to be sold for $72 million after 100 years.

The descendants of Danish tycoon Lars Emil Bruun will auction off a rare coin collection worth $72 million. They have been waiting for this opportunity for 100 years due to Bruun's will.

This is reported by Bloomberg. It is noted:

  • In total, the collection includes about 20 thousand coins and other items like medals, tokens, banknotes, books.
  • Almost all of them are related to the Scandinavian countries.

"The collection will be sold over several years. The sale of the first part is scheduled for next fall," the statement said.

The tycoon forbade to sell the coins for 100 years

It is noted that when Bruun finished filling his collection, he thought about its national significance. In this regard, he decided that, if necessary, it could become a backup copy of the Royal Danish Coin and Medal Collection.

That is why in his will, Bruun stated that his collection could not be sold for 100 years. However, even after this period, it was allowed to sell items from it only if the Royal Collection remained intact.

"According to the available information, one grandson tried to sell items from the collection before the deadline. But he failed to do so," the authors note.

Who will receive the money

In addition to the terms of the sale, Bruun also specified who would receive the money for the sale of his collection. According to the document, these are his descendants.

As reported, the gold pocket watch of the richest man on the Titanic was sold at an auction in the UK for a record 1.175 million pounds (about 1.5 million dollars). The watch was bought by a private American collector from the United States.
