Heorhii Gongadze memorial alley opened in Kyiv

A temporary alley commemorating the memory of Heorhii Gongadze, Ukrainian-Georgian journalist and activist who was kidnapped and killed in September 2000, has been presented in the city of Kyiv. This event marked the beginning of the Heorhii Gongadze Memorial Week.

The exposition, located in front of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, can be visited for a week before 20:00 of 22 September, as reported by the team of the Heorhii Gongadze prize.

"His contribution is felt everywhere – in forming a civil society, in culture, self-identification, freedom of speech and the development of media. Heorhii’s thoughts, activity and worldview still remain topical today.

This Alley is another reminder that the Heroes of Ukraine cannot and will not be forgotten, and evil must always be punished. There is no place for threats, repressions and murders in Ukraine," Vladyslav Zinkevych, programme director of the Prize, said.

The Alley consists of information banners about the life and activity of the journalist. It was created in order to showcase Heorhii’s contribution to the formation of democratic Ukraine, civil society and the spreading of the "Ukrainian voice" in the world.
