Ukraine wins medal for the first time in history at the World Fencing Cup.
Ukraine's women's foil fencing team has won its first-ever medal in a team event at the World Cup. Alina Poloziuk, Olha Sopit, Kateryna Budenko, and Daria Myroniuk won bronze medals at the final, 5th stage of the World Cup in Hong Kong.
To this day, the best result for our women's foil team in the team championship at the World Cup level was sixth place in February 2024 in Egypt.
Ukraine, which was the 12th seed, started from the 1/8 finals and went undefeated to the semifinals, where they lost to the Italians without a chance. The latter eventually became the champions.
The bronze medal match was not going well for our girls. Representatives of South Korea were able to take a 16:11 lead, but the Ukrainians snatched the victory.
In the decisive moments, the Yellow and Blues managed to turn the tide and win 34:31.
It should be noted that only Ukrainian fencers and epee fencers had won medals in team tournaments at the World Cup before. Foil fencers did it for the first time.
