Duda knows how to turn Trump against Russia - Politico.

Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party claims that its representative, President Andrzej Duda , allegedly has some influence on the odious American businessman and former US President Donald Trump . Their meeting in the United States (April 17) coincided with a partial change in the policy of the Republicans and Trump himself on assistance to Ukraine.

Some analysts believe that Duda was simply in the right place at the right time. However, PiS members praised Duda after the Polish president traveled to the United States and the US Congress approved a package of support for Kyiv. Politico writes about this.

"The Polish government believes it has a secret weapon to turn Donald Trump against Russian leader Vladimir Putin ," the journalists said.

It is known that Duda spoke with Trump for two and a half hours in his gold-decorated eponymous tower in New York, Trump Tower, just a few days before the unblocking of American aid. The parties discussed, among other things, Ukraine's military needs. The Polish president also met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson .

When Congress made a positive decision, PiS was quick to claim Duda's involvement.

"Big applause to President Duda, who has received powerful resources to fight Russian imperialism," PiS lawmaker Dariusz Matecki wrote in X.

"President Duda can be fully confident that the job has been well done for Poland and the entire region," added Marcin Przydacz , another party member.

And in politically divided Poland, where the government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the PiS party with President Andrzej Duda are at odds with each other, there is a rare consensus on the need to "grease" Trump.

"I hope that during the meeting in New York, the president took the recommendation of the Polish government and presented the Polish position on security issues. In this we need maximum agreement and minimum disagreement," Tusk wrote (Politico called him Duda's "old enemy").

The rival parties showed unity on this issue because of the serious risk posed by Russia, the danger of the US leaving NATO, and the possible US "abandonment" of Europe if Trump wins the US election.

Interestingly, PiS's story about Duda's "triumph" quickly turned into a joke and a meme in the Polish information space. Poles even wrote a joke song about it.

However, a day after the meeting, Trump, who had previously spoken favorably of Putin and criticized Ukraine, said on social media: "As we all agree, Ukraine's survival and strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it's also important to us! Move, Europe!"

Politico emphasized that Polish PiS politicians regularly speak at conservative gatherings in the United States. Duda was one of the few who refused to congratulate Joe Biden on his victory in the 2020 election. And in 2018, the PiS government even considered naming a base in Poland "Fort Trump" to encourage the White House to deploy American troops there.

When the likely Republican presidential candidate met with the Polish leader in New York, he spoke of his friendship with him.

" [Duda] is my friend , and we've had four great years together, and we may have to do it again. We fully support Poland... I have great respect for this country and great respect for the president," Trump said of the Polish leader.

And although the current Polish government is very wary of Trump, Duda's visit to him "took place with Warsaw's blessing," according to Politico.
