The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has responded to the law on foreign agents in Georgia, expressing concern about the deteriorating political situation in the country. It emphasized that "Russification, not mythical 'Ukrainization', is a real threat ."

This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "We call on all interested parties to respect the right of Georgian citizens to peaceful protest and to seek a solution to the situation through constructive dialogue," the statement said.

It emphasized that respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as the involvement of civil society in addressing socially important issues, is a prerequisite for building the country's European future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed outrage over the comments made by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze regarding the threat of "Ukrainization" that the draft law is allegedly aimed at.

"The use of our country's name in such a disrespectful context causes additional damage to Ukrainian-Georgian relations. Russification, not the mythical "Ukrainization," is a real threat to Georgia," the Ministry said.

They added that Ukraine is interested in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere in Georgia , and has always supported and continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.

As a reminder, on Wednesday, April 17, Georgia adopted a controversial draft law on foreign agents. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, reacted to this by noting that official Tbilisi may face problems when joining the European Union.
