Ambassador Omelchenko: Zelenskyy awarded Alain Delon with Order of Merit for Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded French film legend Alain Delon with the Order of Merit for Ukraine.

This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to France Vadym Omelchenko on French television, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainska Pravda.

"This is an extremely rare and unprecedented gesture towards a foreigner," the ambassador said.

According to the Ukrainian embassy, 88-year-old Delon has been speaking out in support of Ukraine since the first day of the war in Ukraine.

They recalled that in 2022, Delon took part in an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is a former actor himself, and quoted the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko during a television program.

"Mr. Delon, dear Alain, I know that you are in a difficult situation, and I want to tell you that you are not alone...

You have many fans and people who love you. My people and I are always on your side," Omelchenko said.

In 2022, the legendary actor Alain Delon took part in an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the French media and expressed his admiration for him.

Zelenskyy, in turn, thanked Delon for his support of Ukraine and Ukrainians, emphasizing that words are a weapon that sometimes strikes harder than real weapons on the battlefield.

Zelenskyy also said: "I have never been as brilliant an actor as you. For me, you have always been an authority, a great actor."
