«Scorched earth tactics» : the network shows what the occupiers did to Chasiv Yar.

Months of brutal Russian artillery and air strikes have destroyed Chasiv Yar, a strategically important town in eastern Ukraine, in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region. As a result of the war criminals' actions, there are almost no intact buildings left in the town today - most of them have lost their windows and are burned, and some have become ruins.

The town, which was home to more than 12,500 people before the full-scale war, is now practically empty and resembles scorched earth. All of this can be seen in the footage taken from a drone by a Ukrainian police patrol, published by the Associated Press.

"Chasiv Yar, located among green fields and forests, is turning into an apocalyptic look. The destruction is reminiscent of the towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka, which Russia captured after months of similar bombardment," the report said.

Russian troops have been attacking the city in the Kramatorsk-Bakhmut direction for several months in an attempt to capture it. According to military experts, they intend to take control of the hilltop, which will give them the opportunity to attack other cities in Donetsk region, which are the backbone of Ukraine's defense in the east.

This would pave the way for Russia's potentially broader offensive, which is expected to begin as early as May or summer 2024.

Russian troops launched infantry and mechanized attacks on Chasiv Yar with air support at a time when the Ukrainian armed forces were facing a shortage of ammunition. Under the constant bombardment, rows of mid-rise buildings in the town have been blackened by explosions, some of them cut by shrapnel, and many turned into piles of masonry and wood. Infrastructure buildings were also heavily damaged.

The footage shows that only the golden dome of the church in the city remained intact while the building itself was battered. The AP emphasized that the video was taken on Monday, April 29, 2024, and neither military nor civilians were visible, except for a lone man walking among the destroyed buildings.

According to the head of the Donetsk regional military administration Vadim Filashkin, the city has been lacking running water and electricity for more than a year, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver humanitarian aid, but 682 residents continue to stay there.

"The destruction underscores Russia's scorched-earth tactics in more than two years of war. Its troops have killed and displaced thousands of Ukrainian civilians," the AP article says.
