Ministry of Digital Transformation developing AI policies for govt use – minister.

Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation is working on policies to implement artificial intelligence (AI) in government operations, said Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology Development, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.

"In every area the Ministry is working on, there are specific projects to be developed. But one area, which will now become fundamental and cross-sectoral, is AI, and we are actively developing policies for it," the Deputy Prime Minister said at the Conductors of Change forum hosted by Deloitte on Wednesday.

He emphasized that Ukraine must not miss this global trend and should aim to become a hub for AI development. In his view, this could provide an opportunity for Ukraine to "outpace" other digital governments.

"We've climbed from 102nd place in the world to 5th in five years. But we need to reach first place, and AI and automation are the priority areas for us to focus on," Fedorov said.

Fedorov added that representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation would meet with all leading IT companies in Ukraine to discuss what can be done in this direction and how to engage businesses.

"I believe we are on the verge of a revolution, and we cannot afford to miss it. We need to lead it globally," the minister said.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksandr Tsibort announced on September 21 on Facebook that he had discussed the integration of AI into government services with Google's Ukrainian office.
