The son of India's richest man, whose fortune is estimated at $118 billion, is getting married.

29-year-old billionaire Anant Ambani , son of India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, and his chosen one, Radhika Merchant, will celebrate their high-profile three-day wedding on July 12-14. Due to his father's vast fortune of $118 billion and the eloquent preparations for the celebration, which began in March, the holiday is called the "wedding of the year."

The event will take place at the home of Mukesh and Nita Ambani's parents. The residence consists of 27 floors and is called Antilia. Part of the celebration will be held at the family's Gio World Conference Center, which can accommodate 16,000 people. According to CNN, the details of the celebration are strictly kept secret.

What is known about the bride and groom

Anant Ambani is the youngest son of India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani. The 29-year-old billionaire is one of the leaders of the family business and is responsible for expanding the energy sector of the Reliance Industries Limited conglomerate.

He is very fond of animals and has been concerned about their welfare since childhood. That's why Ambani launched the Vantara project, which is a 1214-hectare animal shelter. At the pre-wedding celebration in March, the billionaire showed it to the guests.

Radhika Merchant, 29, was born on December 18, 1994, and is the daughter of billionaire Sri Viren Merchant, CEO of Encore Healthcare.

The couple met through mutual friends during a trip in 2017. That year, she graduated from New York University, where she studied political science and economics, and now works as a director at Encore Healthcare, a private healthcare company.

What to expect at the "wedding of the year"

According to Hindu tradition, the couple's wedding dates were chosen according to the auspicious days in their birth charts. The celebration will last three days from Friday to Sunday, July 12-14. The program of the event is kept secret by the newlyweds.

It is known that standard wedding traditions in India include the Haldi ceremony, during which guests apply a special turmeric paste to the hands and faces of the heroes of the occasion. It is believed that this gives the bride and groom happiness and protects them from evil spirits.

Another common ritual is "Mendi", which involves applying henna patterns to the hands of all those present at the celebration, including the newlyweds. The night before the wedding, the future spouses will not be able to sleep, because according to another custom, "Sangeet," they have to dance for the guests.

Each day of the celebration has its name:

  • July 12 – the Shubh Vivaa ceremony ("Auspicious Wedding");
  • July 13 – Shubh Aashirvad ("Divine Blessing") ceremony;
  • July 14 – Mangal Utsav ("Reception") ceremony.

"Every detail, from the décor and cuisine to the outfits and atmosphere; every event, from the colorful Sangeet to the grand wedding day and the grand reception, is designed to immerse guests in an atmosphere of joy, love, and celebration," said Manish Malhotra, one of India's most famous designers with whom the bride and groom will collaborate.

Dress code of the bride and groom and guests

The newlyweds are likely to wear brightly colored clothes that showcase India in all its glory. This follows from the looks that the bride and groom wore to all the pre-wedding celebrations. According to designer Malhotra, his team "devoted several months of careful craftsmanship to creating exquisite pieces."

The couple encouraged guests to wear "traditional Indian attire," which includes saris for women and kurta (a loose-fitting tunic and pants) for men. For the "Divine Blessing," guests were asked to wear "Indian formal attire," and on Sunday, "Indian chic." The latter implies "a combination of traditional elements with modern fashion.".
