Many children have returned to the classroom, and with the return to school normally comes a mass return to work after the summer.
But new figures show that UK economy is suffering an acute shortage of workers, with vacancies running at record levels.
The crisis has led to calls for the Government to intervene in key sectors by allowing more workers from abroad, including the EU, to fill vacancies.
