Extension of coronavirus restrictions in Liverpool, Warrington, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough.

Stricter Covid-19 restriction are being imposed in Warrington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, and the Liverpool city region to counter a rise in virus cases.

Social mixing between different households except in outdoor public spaces will be against the law.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced there would be a legal ban on different households mixing indoors as well as guidance recommending people do not to attend crowded events or care homes.

Announcing the restrictions in the Commons, Mr Hancock told MPs rules that had been brought in elsewhere in the North East of England would continue to be in place.

And he said the rules in Bolton would be brought in line with the rest of Greater Manchester. There will be no changes to measures in West Yorkshire, West Midlands, Leicester, Lancashire or the rest of Greater Manchester.
