Trump impeachment article given to Senate kicking off historic 2nd trial.
THE article of impeachment accusing ex-President Trump of inciting insurrection was delivered from the House of Representatives to the Senate on Monday - kicking off his historic second trial.
The move charges Trump over his actions during the deadly January 6 riots in which his supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the mostly ceremonial certification of Joe Biden's election win.
Following the violence, the former President condemned the actions of the violent trespassers.
Speaking in a video shared to the White House Twitter feed he said: "I want to be very clear.
"I unequivocally condemn the violence that we saw last week. Violence and vandalism have absolutely no place in our country, and no place in our movement."
House prosecutors walked the impeachment article into the Senate on Monday night, for the second time since Mr Trump became President.
