Donald Trump Leaves the White House

President Donald Trump leaves the White House Wednesday morning.

READ MORE: Trump announced earlier this month that he would not attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

In doing so, Trump is ignoring 160 years of U.S. tradition with outgoing presidents usually greeting their successors at the White House on the morning of Inauguration Day, where they and spouses have tea or coffee. They then ride together to the U.S. Capitol for the new president’s swearing-in ceremony to demonstrate a peaceful transfer of U.S. power.

But Trump left before the inauguration for his own red-carpet send-off at an air base outside Washington, D.C., before boarding Air Force One for the last time for a flight to his Atlantic oceanfront retreat in Florida.

Vice President Mike Pence is planning to attend the inauguration.
