Hot and dry weather is heightening the risk of wildfires in central and southern California late this week as firefighters continue to battle ongoing wildland blazes.
A National Weather Service heat advisory was issued Thursday and Friday across the Central Valley.
Prior to the warnings, nearly 15,000 firefighters were making progress on 14 major wildfires and several smaller fires in the region, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
California has experienced increasingly larger and deadlier wildfires in recent years as climate change continues to heat up the West Coast of the United States. (AP)
