TOKYO deploys security robots in preparation for potential labor shortages in the future.
Security robots have begun patrolling Tokyo to offset a predicted future security personnel shortage, according to the news site NHK.
The autonomous mobile security robot developed by Tokyo-based company Seqsense uses image-recognition and sensor technology to patrol along predetermined routes.
The SQ-2 patrol robot has already been deployed inside multiple government facilities and office buildings around Tokyo and surrounding areas, according to the Seqsense website.
Video taken by Yuka Morii shows the 1.3-meter-tall (4-foot) robot navigating the Tokyo International Forum on Thursday.
