On Nov. 26, 2011, the Mars rover Curiosity launched into space from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station as part of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory mission. The car-sized rover was designed to explore the Gale crater on Mars and investigate the planet’s habitability. This included studying climate geology, with the hope of collecting data for a human mission to Mars in the future. Curiosity is still on Mars today, roaming the frozen desert and collecting data. CBS News correspondent Lee Cowan reported on the event.
