Several shells hit downtown Donetsk on Friday (December 2, 2022), damaging shops, Reuters was told by witnesses.
A supermarket and a chemist's store had windows broken but no casualties were reported.
There was no immediate information on who launched the shells but the Russia-installed leader of Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, arrived on the scene and appeared to blame Ukrainian forces for the attack.
Fighting continues to rage in eastern Ukraine, with the town of Bakhmut - 85 kilometres (52 miles) north of Donetsk - remaining the main target of Moscow's artillery attacks, while Russian forces in the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions remain on the defensive, Ukraine's General Staff said.
