The powerful 6.5 magnitude tremor struck in the Hindu Kush mountains and was felt across Central and South Asia. The earthquake shook large parts of northern Afghanistan and Pakistan, killing at least 12 people and injuring many more. Rescue operations are underway, but authorities say the number of casualties could increase.
