Set a reminder to watch live on April 2 at 10:15 a.m. ET: The murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is ending its first week, which featured tense and emotional testimony.
The proceedings on Thursday ended with the testimony of Chauvin's former police supervisor, retired Minneapolis Police Sergeant David Ploeger, who testified that the officers' use of force against Floyd could have ended once the man stopped resisting.
Earlier in the day, George Floyd’s girlfriend Courteney Batya Ross took the stand, and broke down in tears as she spoke about their relationship. Ross described Floyd as a “mama’s boy” who was devastated by his mother’s death in 2018. She described him as an active person who liked to lift weights and play sports. But she also said the couple struggled with opioid addiction, which they had both tried to beat.
