Watch live: Biden introduces Merrick Garland as nominee for attorney general.

Set a reminder to watch live on January 7 at 1:30 p.m. ET: President-elect Biden is introducing nominees for the Department of Justice, including Judge Merrick Garland for attorney general. Garland was nominated for the Supreme Court in 2016 by then-President Obama, but Republican senators blocked his nomination.

Mr. Biden’s announcement comes after pro-Trump rioters breached the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, where lawmakers were counting the 2020 Electoral College votes, a perfunctory last step before Mr. Biden's inauguration. Also on Wednesday, Democrats were projected to gain control of the Senate after Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff won their runoff elections in Georgia.

Mr. Biden will also introduce the following nominees:
• Lisa Monaco for deputy attorney general
• Vanita Gupta for associate attorney general
• Kristen Clarke for assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division
