Fire-Stricken Ship Off Sri Lanka Towed to Deep Sea
Salvage experts attempted to tow a fire-stricken container ship loaded with chemicals into the deep sea as the vessel started to sink, Wednesday, June 2, off the coast of Sri Lanka.
Firefighters fought the fire burning through the MV X-Press Peral for 12 days.
Experts are attempting to move the ship because if it sank at its current position, it would cause severe pollution.
Authorities have already imposed a fishing ban along about 80 kilometers of the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo’s coast. (AP)
