COVID-19: Over 100 local lockdowns revealed as UK fights coronavirus pandemic.

Matt Hancock has announced that the UK is fighting the COVID-19 virus by instigating over 100 localised lockdowns every week. The Health Secretary confirmed dozens of new outbreaks are being shut down “swiftly and silently” by installing new testing regimes and isolating people where an outbreak is found.

Across the country as pubs, schools and businesses reopened several coronavirus flare-ups have occurred, leading to local lockdown measures being reintroduced. For example, a farm in Herefordshire was placed under quarantine yesterday after 73 workers tested positive for coronavirus. Staff were told to isolate in mobile homes to control the outbreak. Leicester was also placed under a renewed lockdown after the city’s COVID-19 cases spiralled to being the most infected city in the UK. However, Matt Hancock has said that the local lockdown in the city will be reviewed. According to newspaper reports, door-to-door testing in the worst affected parts of Leicester have been used to combat the outbreak, and other cities should expect the same tactic in the coming months.
