BORIS Johnson found out about Oliver Dowden’s bombshell resignation early this morning - after going for a dip in his hotel pool in Kigali.

Sun political reporter Jack Elsom explains this disastrous triple blow for the PM.

The PM - an early riser - was already finishing off his laps of the water by 6.10am when his aides first saw him after their double byelection blow.

Shortly after he spoke to Mr Dowden on the phone who gave him his third piece of bad news of the morning.

After the worst by-election defeat in history in Tiverton, and the loss of an iconic Red Wall sea in Wakefield, he was walking.

Boris was shocked by the bombshell resignation of Mr Dowden - who has been “breezily” prepping the PM for by-election defeat.

They insist they are not worried about a coup - but the knives will be out for the PM back home.
