Sri Lanka's previous administration must take the blame for the economic crisis facing the country, according to newly-appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Wickremesinghe said the previous government had "run down the economy", causing the nation to go bankrupt for the first time in its history.
He added that he can understand the "anguish" of protesters who have taken to the streets in recent weeks, as they face food and fuel shortages amid sky-rocketing inflation.
