FLORIDA braced as Hurricane Ian 'closes in' and could have 'catastrophic impact'.
The city of New Smyrna Beach – on the eastern coast of Florida – handed out 8,300 sandbags to residents ahead of the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Ian, officials said on Tuesday, September 27.
Footage shared by the City of New Smyrna Beach shows sandbags being filled at the city’s Sports Complex.
The complex would be open for residents to pick up and fill sandbags until 6 pm on September 27.
The National Hurricane Center said on Tuesday that the storm was expected to make landfall on the western Florida coast in the early hours of Wednesday.
