Rat Gets Gold Medal for Landmine Detection

A rat was awarded a gold medal for spotting 39 landmines and 28 items of unexploded ordnance in Cambodia last month.

Magawa, the giant African pouched rat, was trained by the charity Anti-Personnel Landmines Detection Product Development and scoured more than 141,000 square meters of land to find the landmines.

The medal was awarded for his “lifesaving bravery and devotion to duty.”
