Thousands of Muslim worshippers gathered at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday to hold prayers on the first Friday of Ramadan.
The prayers passed peacefully.
In previous years, Ramadan has seen violent clashes between Israeli police and the Palestinians, particularly around the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam's third holiest site, revered as the Temple Mount by Jews. (Reuters)
