Military crews from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia started joint helicopter exercise called Fire Blade 2022 in western Hungary on June 21, 2022.
The three-week-long exercise, held by the European Defense Agency (EDA), aims at enhancing co-operation between several European nations in various combat techniques.
EDA's Project Officer, Jose Pablo Romera, said the focus had shifted from guerrilla-like insurgencies, such as in Afghanistan, to a "conventional, country against country" conflict like in Ukraine since the last edition held in 2017.
He added the war in Ukraine is not a scenario in which the European forces are operating in, but "we need to be prepared for anything," he said.
