Mummy Covering Its Face with Its Hands Discovered in Peru.

Peruvian archaeologists have found a mummy in good condition and with its hands covering its face in a large pre-Inca area south of the capital of Peru, Sunday, November 28.

In a country with constant archaeological discoveries, the mummy is sitting "covering her face with hands" which makes it different from others found in the capital, Peruvian archaeologist Pieter Van Dalen Luna said Sunday.

Van Dalen is one of the archaeologists responsible for the research project of the National Major San Marcos University.

The mummy covered with ropes was found in an underground structure accessed by a seven-tiered staircase.

Archaeologists believe that the mummy dates between 800 and 1,200 years after Christ and is from the pre-Inca Wari culture or the Chaclla culture.

The area where the mummy was discovered is called Cajamarquilla and in the pre-Inca times was a commercial center where people of various ethnic groups lived, and was on a road connecting areas of the Andes with populated centers of the Pacific coast.

Peru is a country with frequent archaeological discoveries from the Inca era and previous periods. The Incas were conquered by the Spanish in the sixteenth century. (AP)
