Hundreds of Whales Stranded in Southern Australia

At least 250 whales are stranded in a remote bay on the Australian Island of Tasmania, officials said Monday, September 21.

At least 25 of the whales have died as scientists are attempting to figure out a way to rescue the rest.

Tasmania’s environment department said the whales became stuck on a sandbar in Macquarie Harbor on the island’s west coast.

Mass whale stranded occur quite often in Tasmania but the numbers involved in this incident pose a problem for rescuers.(AFP)
