Cambodian fishermen on the Mekong River recently discovered a giant, 4-meter-long stingray weighing 180 kilograms in their nets and contacted experts who were in the area for help.
Zeb Hogan, a fish biologist at the University of Nevada, was leading a team on a research expedition in a remote part of the river when he was notified of the discovery and assisted in releasing the fish.
“We were able to get the stingray into a nice spot of the river, get the hook out, we placed it on a tarp and then pushed it out into the river and watched it slowly swim away on the surface of the river,” Hogan told Reuters via a video call.
