Beating Retreat Ceremony Marks End of India’s Republic Day Celebrations.

India's Republic Day celebrations ended Wednesday with the flag-lowering ceremony at Attari-Wagah international border in northern Punjab state.

The ceremony, known as Beating the Retreat, includes cultural performances and the ceremonial closing of gates and lowering of the national flags of India and Pakistan.

Every year, thousands of people converge on the Indian side to witness the event. This year, however, because of the pandemic, the number of visitors was restricted to control the spread of the coronavirus.
