Live: Thousands of anti-government protesters gather in Thailand.

Thousands of pro-democracy protesters marched in Bangkok, Thailand, to call for limitations on the powers of the monarchy and the resignation of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.

The demo goes ahead despite rules issued overnight by Thailand's government banning gatherings of five or more people in a bid to end protests in the streets in Thailand's capital.

Protesters have been pressuring prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to step down.
