'Shocking' to be barred from running as Mayor of North of Tyne, Jamie Driscoll says.
Jamie Driscoll, who is the Mayor of the North of Tyne, recently revealed on social media that he had been "barred" from running as the Labour candidate to contest the North East mayoralty and that "no explanation has been given".
He told Sophy Ridge On Sunday that he found out about this in an email.
"This email said thank you for applying, you are unsuccessful in being taken forward as a candidate," Mr Driscoll said.
"I've been mayor since 2019, the area I cover is expanding, it will cover the wider North East. I've delivered thousands of jobs, affordable homes... we're tackling child poverty."
