Golden Globes 2021 ceremony highlights

Drama "Nomadland" and satire "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" won movie honours at the Golden Globes on Sunday.

The mostly virtual Golden Globes on Sunday was marked by calls for diversity and Netflix's dominance across movie and TV.

The event looked different - instead of A-listers at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills - it was mostly Zoom calls from the homes of celebrities.

Hosted by Tina Fey in New York and Amy Poehler in Beverly Hills, the few people in a physical audience were masked frontline workers.

But the event was controversial before it even aired - after an LA Times report that there were no Black people among all 87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which did not escape the hosts, either.

"Inclusivity is important and there are no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press. I realise HFPA, maybe you guys didn't get the memo because your workplace is the back booth of a French McDonald's but you gotta change that."

Members of the HFPA appeared briefly on Sunday's show and pledged to do better.

As for the awards themselves... Netflix far and away the night's big winner, with four movie awards and six for television, including best TV drama series "The Crown" and limited series "The Queen's Gambit."

Netflix's period drama "Mank" had gone into Sunday's show with a leading six nominations, but left empty-handed.

Searchlight's "Nomadland," a drama about van dwellers in recession-hit America took best director for Chinese-born Chloe Zhao…

Only the second woman and first of Asian descent to ever win the category.

She quoted the movie in her acceptance.

"We don't say goodbye, we say see you down the road."

Sacha Baron Cohen, the creator of Amazon's "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" was named best comedy movie actor - and the film itself was 'best comedy' - a satire about America under former President Donald Trump.

"Donald Trump is contesting the result!"

Cohen couldn't resist joining in to mock the Globes, either.

"Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press."
