Australians Celebrate in Mud as Rain Falls on Drought-Stricken Queensland.

Residents celebrated in muddy fashion as rain finally brought relief to drought-stricken areas of Queensland, Australia, Wednesday, January 15.

Not even 9 millimeters of rain fell in Winton, but it was enough to get the locals riled up.

Australia has been battling an extended three-year drought, which is one contributing factor to the devastating wildfires burning the country’s east coast.

Several months above average rainfall would be necessary to Australia to recover from the drought, according to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, adding that the country would have to wait until March for rains to bring sustained relief from the dry weather. (REUTERS)
