NATO Performs Flight Interception Drills Over Baltics.

NATO performed practice drills intercepting aircraft in allied airspace, Tuesday, January 14, with pilots from Britain, France and Demark performing close aerial encounters at high speeds in Lithuania.

Russian air activity on allied borders remains constant as jets fly from the Russian mainland across the Baltic Sea to Kalingrad.

During the simulations, NATO pilots carrying missiles took turns simulating the interception of a Belgian air force transporter playing the role of a Russian aircraft.

NATO air commanders hope such drills can highlight how NATO’s planes are helping to protect the continent, especially given U.S. President Donald Trump’s regular criticisms of Europe’s’ defense spending. (REUTERS)
