Ukraine's envoy in the U.S. Volodymyr Yelchenko sees no need in calling the UN Security Council session in regard to the crash of Ukraine's Boeing 737 over Tehran. The Ukrainian diplomat said so at a briefing in Washington, Ukrinform reports.

"In case Iran did not accept its guilt, perhaps we would have to turn to the UN Security Council. But since the situation developed quite dynamically, I just can't see what's the goal of those who believe there's a need to convene UN Security Council", he said.

Yelchenko added that on January 9, Ukraine already brought up this issue. Then, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia read the special statement on the behalf of Ukraine, Germany, Canada and Sweden, some of the countries that lost their citizens in the tragedy.

Recently, members of the European Parliament discussed the topic of Iran during the Tuesday debates in Strasbourg. Some of the lawmakers called on Russia to follow the suite of Iran, taking the responsibility for the attack on Malaysian Boeing 777 downed over Donbas in summer 2014.

German MEP Michael Haller tod this to Radio Liberty, claiming that there's a unique situation taking place now, when "Iran is ahead of Russia in terms of recognizing the responsibility". "Russia has to assume the responsibility in the attack on MH17, but it hasn't done it yet. The evidence is identical [to that in Iran], but Russia refuses to recoignize its guilt", Haller said.
