Government planning to create special fund for restructuring coal regions.

The government is planning the launch the restructuring of Ukraine's coal regions with the support of European partners this year, and a dialogue with partners on the establishment of a multi-donor fund is underway, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

"We are planning to start the transformation of coal regions with the support of European partners as soon as this year. The dialogue on the creation of a multi-donor fund for restructuring coal regions is underway," Shmyhal said at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Economy without Oligarchs", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the prime minister, the Cabinet of Ministers has already established a coordination center for restructuring coal regions, and the Secretariat for Energy Partnership has started to operate.

In addition, Shmyhal noted that such a transformation is envisaged in the National Economic Strategy until 2030, which was adopted three months ago in order to ensure economic growth for Ukraine and improve the welfare of Ukrainians.

"Over the past three months, we have already shown that we are moving in line with the strategy, this movement contributes to Ukraine's economic recovery. The basis of the government's economic policy is macroeconomic stability. To successfully implement all reforms, it is necessary to build a country with sustainable public finances and a developed financial sector,” he said.

As Ukrinform reported, the Ukrainian government intends to launch at least two pilot projects on restructuring coal regions with the support of Germany in 2021.
