LIAM Payne has revealed why he missed son Bear's birthday as he admitted being a dad is "hard".
The ex One Direction singer has now admitted his work schedule has caused him to miss special moments in his son's life.
The 25-year-old singer appeared on The One Show on Friday and discussed juggling fatherhood with being a pop star.
When asked how he feels about leaving Beat as he goes on tour with his new album LP1, the star said: "I don't know, I am quite excited to go out.
"It is difficult being on the road, going out and promo-ing. It has been hard to get home and see him. Loads of random things happen with kids all the time. Like if he's not very well, sometimes you miss dates and things. Then a couple of weeks go by, and I haven't seen him in ages.
"It hurts, I do want to go out on tour, I'm just going to have to figure out the schedule properly."
Back in March, Liam was pictured flying to Dubai - the same day as his son Bear's second birthday.
He joined Little Mix and Rita Ora at the The Global Teacher Prize Assembly concert in the city.
It's believed he flew out late on Friday, after spending the day with his son Bear.
A source told the Daily Star: "Liam is due to take to the stage 7.30pm local time on Saturday, which is 3.30pm in the UK.
"Flights take seven hours so at best Liam could be in the England for some of Bear's birthday on Friday but logistically it is almost impossible for him to be there for the full day.
"Liam could to go straight from the airport to the venue but going from a long-haul flight to the stage would be draining."
Last year, Liam suffered a similar diary clash on his son's first birthday after he was booked to perform in Japan on March 24.
However, he did manage to spend the morning of that day with Bear.
And his ex, Cheryl, recently confirmed they spent Christmas as a family, too.
Speaking to The Sun, the 35-year-old said: "There's no animosity whatsoever between us. In fact, Liam spent Christmas Day with us."
Cheryl was said to be angered when Liam's shock romance with 48-year-old supermodel Naomi Campbell came to light recently.
However, earlier this month, the exes were seen greeting each other with a kiss at the Global Awards in London.
The Sun Online has contacted Liam's representative for comment.
