Dzheppar meets with new head of Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.

Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheppar has met with the newly appointed head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, Steen Norlov, to discuss the issue of improving the effectiveness of the Action Plan for Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service has reported.

"First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar met on March 2 with the newly appointed Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Ukraine, Head of the Council of Europe Office in our country, Steen Norlov, and Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programs of the Council of Europe Verena Taylor," the report reads.

The parties discussed ways to increase the effectiveness of the implementation of draft action plans, in particular those aimed at overcoming the effects of external aggression against Ukraine, the ministry said.

The participants in the meeting emphasized the importance of the further effective implementation of the Action Plan as an effective practical tool for the Council of Europe to support the course of reforms in Ukraine in the areas of human rights protection, the rule of law and the development of a democratic society.

The Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2021 is a strategic programming instrument which aims, through cooperation, to accompany the country in its efforts to bring legislation, institutions and practice further into line with European standards in the areas of human rights, the rule of law and democracy and, through this, to support the country in meeting its obligations as a Council of Europe member State.

Dzheppar congratulated Norlov on the beginning of his activity in this position, expressing confidence that the CoE Office in Ukraine will continue to implement projects developed jointly with Ukrainian partners under the Action Plan for 2018-2022.

The Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine was earlier extended until the end of 2022.
