Ukraine-Hungary Commission on National Minorities to meet on Sept 16.

Ukraine and Hungary agreed to hold a meeting of the Ukraine-Hungary Commission on National Minorities on September 16.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this at a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto in Kyiv on July 22, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“We have agreed on a schedule of further contacts, meetings of the Commission on National Minorities – by the way, the chairmanship of this commission, in accordance with the government's decision, will be transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – and holding of a bilateral intergovernmental commission in September this year. Therefore, we have very dynamic contacts with Hungary ahead,” Kuleba noted.

In turn, Szijjarto said that the meeting is expected to take place on September 16. "I hope that we will achieve new results in the use of the Hungarian language in Hungarian-language schools," he stressed.

According to the Hungarian minister, a joint commission on border issues will convene on September 24, at which the parties are to discuss the issue of the Nagyhódos-Velyka Palad border crossing point; and a "joint economic commission" will meet on September 30.

Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe Peter Szijjarto is on a working visit to Ukraine at Kuleba's invitation.
