Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the design works are set to start this year for a new airport in eastern Ukraine's Donbas 2021.
The news came as the head of state spoke at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Infrastructure" held in Kyiv on February 22.
"This year we'll start designing a new airport for Donetsk and Luhansk regions," he said.
According to Zelensky, experts are already looking for an appropriate site to launch construction.
Moreover, he said, Ukraine is expected to build a new airport in the country's far-Western Zakarpattia region in a few of years.
Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii earlier expressed hope that the ministry would be able to start the construction of an airport in Zakarpattia region as early as 2022.
The national budget for 2021 adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, envisages funding of projects to develop airports in the cities of Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Rivne, and Kherson.
Also, the ministry's strategy provides for the annual upgrading of five or six airports, depending on the amount of funding.
